2019 The 9th China International Poster Biennial

Ever since posters came into people’s life, no matter how the times change, posters have always visualized the artist’s views of and reflections on politics, economy, culture and life, promoting social progresses and economic growth, and enriching cultural life. Posters are worthy of study as an important literature and also as a visual indicator of the social devel-opment in different times, indicating social problems, cultural phenomena, popular aes-thetics and trends of thoughts. Today, with the rapid development of the world, this is a great era of change. The future has arrived, when art designs are made with new media in-stead of the old, into an interactive interface between individuals and the society. This year's China international poster biennale aims to explore and exhibit the innovations from different countries and regions in the new era and to promote cultural exchanges and mu-tual learning among international professional designers.
Since 2003, when the 1st China International Poster Biennale was held in Hangzhou by the West Lake, the exhibition has always been China's top-notch international competition of poster design, a cultural exchange program approved by the Ministry of Culture. In the past 16 years, it has been one of the poster contests and exhibitions that are academically advanced and are appealing to the international graphic designers.
This year’s poster biennale is sponsored by the China Academy of Art, organized by CAA’s School of Design and China Design Museum. It is intended to present the up-to-date art-of-the-skill of graphic design and the charm of posters. Hopefully, via competing, exhibit-ing, lecturing, publishing, interviewing and reviewing, it will grow into an important plat-form in China’s design teaching and study.
The 9th China International Poster Biennale will be held in Hangzhou, China in mid-September, 2019. The jury will be made up of the most influential professional designers and artists from all over the world. It is the international practice that the jury will have the complete right of and the final say on selecting the works for all the awards.

1. About the organizer: 
The School of Design of China Academy of Art 
The earliest history of the school can be traced back to the Patterns Department of the previous National Academy of Art, China's earliest established modern discipline of design art that was founded in 1928. The school takes its features of being localized, contempo-rary and internationalized as the starting point to update its academic ideas and educa-tional philosophy. Adhering to the goal of fostering students with a good taste and learn-ing capacity, a good command of art and theory, the knowledge of history and of the world, the school focuses on the study of oriental aesthetics while building the core cur-riculum of Oriental Design on top of updating the contemporary design ideas. After more than 90 years of development, School of Design has become a leading design education institution in China in terms of its international influences.

China Design Museum of China Academy of Art: 
The museum is located on Xiangshan campus of China Academy of Art, having a total construction area of 16,800 square meters. It is designed by the well-known Portuguese contemporary architect designer Alvaro Siza. The museum displays the relationships be-tween design and life, design and art, design and the society, design and science & tech-nology development by setting up the contemporary design exhibitions with its collec-tions. Backed by the academic resources of CAA, the museum also exhibits cross-border contemporary design works made worldwide to keep up with the cutting-edge skill, to up-date the contemporary cultural consumption concept, to promote the development of cul-tural creative industry, and to serve the public cultural services system.

For this year’s exhibition, you have to submit both the e-copy and the print of your work.




Rules and regulations:

1. All submitted posters for the 2019 Biennale have to be originals made after 2017. Post-ers can be printed in ways of offset, silk-screen, or digital printing. But please NOTICE that NO INK-JET OR HAND DRAWING WORK IS ACCEPTED. 

2. Size of posters: 
no smaller than 36.4cm x 51.5cm (14.3 inches x 20.3 inches) and no larger than 120.0cm x 180.0cm (70.9 inches x 47.3 inches) 

3. There is no upper limit on the number of works that a single participant can submit. Se-rial works are considered as one entry.

4. To avoid damages in shipping, safe packaging is recommended. The organizing com-mittee shall not be liable for any damages or missing packages of the entries caused by mailing.

5. All posters have to be sent as prints without any commercial value. Please do not in-clude the price of your submission on the postal declaration or invoice. The organizing committee will not accept any entries that declare a commercial value in its postage tax bill or mailing invoice.
All entries are not returnable.

Ways of submitting:
All participants have to log onto the official website of China International Poster Biennale @ http://www.cipb.org/, register online Following are the procedures:
a. Log onto , click the “upload” icon, set up an account to get into the registration system.
b. Fill out the information as indicated and upload/submit your work.
c. After submitting your work, download the name tag for your submission and fill it out. 
d. If you have multiple works to upload, you may repeat steps b and c.
NOTE:You may submit multiple works with one account. Please do not register repeat-edly.

Requirements for the e-copy of your work:
1. Requirements for your E-copy: 300dpi accuracy, JPG file format, 300dpi reso-lution, RGB mode, each uploaded picture is no bigger than 5 mega bytes.
2. Requirements for prints: The name tag must be printed and pasted on the lower right corner of the back (the tag can be duplicated). The form for participating has to be signed by the participant, sealed in an envelope and mailed along with the print of your entry to the organizing committee. Those who fail to fill in the form will be disqualified. Once your work is selected for the exhibition, the information you write on the entry form will be in-cluded in the “2019 China International Poster Biennale Collection”. 
3. Two copies of each entry are required. No mounting required.

For all the exhibited entries, the organizing committee has the right to exhibit, publish, publicize, collect and display all entries on TV, Internet, print or broadcasting media. 
If there is any doubt about the rules, the organizing committee reserves the right to give the final interpretations. For anything that has not been mentioned here, the organizing committee reserves the right to make further interpretations to the more detailed rules.
